INDIANAPOLIS –
Steven Beattie scored a pair of goals to lead the No. 2-ranked Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Sunday.
Beattie struck first just seven minutes into the contest by taking a bouncing pass from
Kevin Donnelly and firing a shot past Indianapolis goalkeeper Justin Roberts for the early lead. The junior extended the NKU advantage in the 32nd minute after
John Swiastyn sent a ball wide for Beattie, who elected to fire on net and put the ball just inside the left post for his ninth goal of the season.
Beattie, now with 41 career goals, has passed Todd Gruenwald (40) to become NKU's second-leading goal scorer of all-time. Beattie needs five goals to match Chad Scott's school-record 46 goals.
Roger Lee brought the Greyhounds within one in the 64th minute, redirecting a Taku Chapman free kick over the head of NKU goalkeeper
Michael Lavric, who had three saves in the victory.
With the victory, NKU is now 7-0-1 overall and 4-0 in GLVC play. The Norse hold a 20-6-1 advantage in the all-time series against Indianapolis.
NKU begins a weekend home stand this Friday when the Norse welcome Saint Joseph's to the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. NKU closes the weekend with a Sunday matinee against Wisconsin-Parkside, starting at 2:30 p.m.
