WILDER, Ky. – Greg Gehrig's late goal lifted Saint Joseph's College to a 2-1 upset victory against the top-ranked Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team on Friday night.

In a wild contest that saw each team have a man sent off with a red card, Gehrig picked up a through ball from Dan Zimmer, beat an NKU defender one-on-one and pushed a shot past NKU goalkeeper Michael Lavric in the 81st minute of the contest.

Steven Beattie got the Norse on the board in the first half, ripping a free kick opportunity around the Pumas' wall and low to the right post for his 10th goal of the season. The Pumas responded with less than a minute remaining before halftime when Ryan Melson's well-placed header off a Bojan Adler free kick found paydirt to knot the halftime score at 1-all.

The Norse dominated the shot count, 21-6, and forced Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Alex Makin to make five saves in the contest.

The loss puts NKU at 7-1-1 overall on the season and 4-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. It is the first home loss the Norse have suffered since Nov. 18, 2007, when NKU fell in the NCAA national quarterfinals to Lincoln Memorial by an identical 2-1 score.

NKU returns to action on Sunday by hosting Wisconsin-Parkside in a top 25 matchup. UW-Parkside is ranked No. 24 in the NCAA Division II national poll.
