Norse men remain unbeaten as Beattie scores winner at 103:24 mark in OT

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
Steven Beattie drilled a 30-yard free kick into the right side of the net Thursday night to give the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team a 2-1 overtime victory against Southern Indiana at Strassweg Field.
Beattie's winning kick sailed past Southern Indiana goalie Keenan Johnson at the 103:24 mark as NKU – ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll – survived the Southern Indiana upset attempt. The Norse improved to 3-0 overall, 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Southern Indiana dropped to 0-2 overall, 0-1 GLVC.
Rush Dugger's breakaway goal 18 minutes into the second half gave Southern Indiana a 1-0 lead. That advantage held up until NKU's
Paul Andrews knotted the score at 1-all at the 82:17 mark by heading in a shot off a corner kick by
Alex Oeswein.
NKU finished with a 20-15 edge in shot attempts. Norse goalie
Michael Lavric recorded seven saves.
Southern Indiana still owns a 14-12-2 lead in the all-time series, but NKU has now won the last six meetings.
NKU plays a non-conference road contest at Findlay at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
