Steven Beattie assisted on both goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory against Quincy.
Goalie
Michael Lavric recorded the shutout and had four saves for NKU, which improved to 8-1-3 overall, 6-1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked ninth nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.
Ruffin Lumbala and
Nicholas Chiarot each netted goals as NKU improved to 7-7-3 in the all-time series against Quincy (7-5 overall, 6-4 GLVC). The Norse have beaten the Hawks five consecutive times.
Quincy has not defeated NKU since Oct. 16, 2005, when the Hawks posted a 3-0 victory against the Norse at Wilder, Ky.
Lumbala scored the first goal of the contest in the 52nd minute, and Chiarot iced the victory with a goal in the 76th minute. Beattie's two assists give him 10 helpers for the season. He also has nine goals for a total of 28 points.
Lavric now has four shutouts this season. The senior goalie has a school-record 24 shutouts in his career.
NKU owned a 13-8 advantage in shot attempts, while Quincy finished with a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
NKU plays host to Missouri S&T at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Norse play their regular-season home finale next Sunday against Drury at 2:30 p.m.
