COLUMBUS, Ohio – Steven Beattie scored a pair of second-half goals as the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team posted a 2-1 win against Ohio Dominican on Wednesday night in a non-conference game.

Beattie, a senior striker from Skerries, Ireland, netted his first goal at the 61:14 mark by sending a shot from 18 yards out into the back of the net. One minute later, Beattie extended NKU's lead to 2-0 by taking a pass from Michael Holder and finishing with a 10-yard shot.

Beattie has 16 goals this season and scored an NKU-record 67 markers in his career.

Justin Wheeler scored a goal in the 79th minute to cut NKU's advantage to 2-1, but the Norse defense tightened up and held Ohio Dominican scoreless the final 11 minutes.

NKU goalie Michael Lavric made a huge save on an Ohio Dominican penalty kick in the 68th minute to key the Norse victory. NKU is now 12-2-3 overall and ranked No. 8 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Norse are also rated No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Region poll.

Ohio Dominican, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, dropped to 11-5-1 with the setback. Wednesday night's contest marked the first meeting between NKU and Ohio Dominican in men's soccer.

NKU begins play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by hosting Rockhurst. NKU is the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament, while Rockhurst is the No. 7 seed.

The Norse and Hawks played to a 2-all draw earlier this season at Kansas City, Mo. NKU is 4-6-3 all-time against Rockhurst in men's soccer.
