HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory against Centre (Ky.) in an exhibition contest Saturday night at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
Steven Beattie opened the scoring for NKU by blasting in a shot off a rebound from 22 yards straight out in the 24th minute. The Norse made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when
Paul Andrews headed in a shot off a corner kick by
Mohammad Salhieh.
Andrews finished off the NKU scoring in the 48th minute with an unassisted goal that extended the Norse lead to 3-0. Centre avoided the shutout in the 73rd minute courtesy of a penalty kick.
The Norse, ranked 21st nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, finished with a 25-7 advantage in shots. NKU finished its exhibition season with a 1-1-1 record.
NKU begins the regular season Friday night with a home contest against Findlay at 7:30 p.m. Two days later, the Norse open Great Lakes Valley Conference action by hosting Southern Indiana at the NKU Soccer Stadium at 2:30 p.m.
