Beattie nets two goals as NKU men's soccer rolls to 6-0 victory against Kentucky Wesleyan

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Steven Beattie scored a pair of goals and Nicholas Chiarot added three assists as the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win against Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday.

Beattie, a senior striker from Skerries, Ireland, netted his first goal less than six minutes into the contest with a nifty kick while on the ground. Beattie's shot came off a nice cross from Chiarot, who pushed the ball past the Kentucky Wesleyan defense to get Beattie into scoring position.

also collected goals in the first half as NKU (3-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) built a 3-0 advantage at the break. The Norse, ranked No. 7 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, owned a 15-1 advantage in shot attempts by halftime and finished with a whopping 28-2 margin in total shots.

Ruffin Lumbala scored a goal four minutes into the second half to make it 4-0, and Beattie added his second goal of the contest at the 61:56 mark to give NKU a 5-0 lead. Jordan Grant netted his first goal of the season at the 69:03 mark to cap the Norse scoring.

Beattie now has four goals this season, and he is NKU's all-time career leader in that category with 55. Beattie is also the Norse's all-time career scoring leader in total points with 127.

NKU is now 25-4-3 in the all-time series against Kentucky Wesleyan. The Panthers dropped to 1-3 this season, 0-3 in the GLVC.

NKU also gave head coach John Basalyga his 99th career victory with the Norse. Basalyga will go for win No. 100 this Friday when NKU plays host to Indianapolis at 5 p.m.
