HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University men's soccer head coach John Basalyga recorded his 100th career victory Friday night during a 5-2 win against Indianapolis at the NKU Soccer Stadium.

Steven Beattie tied a school record with four assists for NKU, which is ranked No. 6 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Michael Holder scored two goals as the Norse improved to 4-0-1 overall, 3-0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

t
Basalyga, in his eighth season at NKU, is now 100-37-17 as the Norse head coach. John Toebben is currently the NKU men's soccer program's all-time career leader with 137 coaching victories.

Indianapolis (4-2 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the contest when Scott Gyllenborg sent a 22-yard shot into the back of the net. NKU countered at the 21:18 mark when Holder took a pass from Beattie and beat Indianapolis goalie Justin Roberts with a breakaway score.

Tommy Barrick gave NKU the lead for good in the 42nd minute by maneuvering his way past several Indianapolis defenders and sending a shot into the net for a 2-1 Norse advantage. Two minutes later, Mohammad Salhieh took a pass from Beattie and struck for a goal to extend NKU's lead to 3-1 at the break.

Paul Andrews scored a goal early in the second half on Beattie's third assist to make it a 4-1 Norse lead. Holder capped the NKU scoring in the 81st minute, courtesy of another assist by Beattie.

Beattie's four assists tied the NKU record held by Jeff Anderson, who collected four assists in a 7-1 win against Kentucky Wesleyan on Sept. 22, 2000.

NKU now leads the all-time series with Indianapolis, 21-6-1.

NKU plays host to No. 12 Ashland at noon Sunday in a battle of nationally ranked teams. The NKU Soccer Complex will be formally dedicated Sunday. The dedication ceremony is set to start at 2 p.m., or approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game.
