INDIANAPOLIS - A battle for first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer standings took place Sunday afternoon between Northern Kentucky University and Indianapolis.
After going through regulation and one overtime period scoreless, Indianapolis broke the deadlock with a goal at the 101:29 mark to post a 1-0 upset over No. 4 NKU. Wesley Oliver ended the contest by sending the ball over the outstretched arms of NKU keeper

Indianapolis won its ninth straight contest and improved to 10-2 overall, 9-1 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds also took sole possession of first place in the GLVC standings.
NKU - which had won three straight - is 10-2 overall, 8-2 in the GLVC. The Norse outshot Indianapolis by an 18-13 margin but were unable to find the back of the net.
NKU is now 22-7-1 all-time against Indianapolis, which had lost six straight in the series. The Norse defeated the Greyhounds twice last season, including a 3-0 triumph in the GLVC Tournament championship game.
Before Sunday's upset, Indianapolis' last win against NKU occurred on Sept. 1, 2006, when the Greyhounds pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory in Wilder, Ky.
In addition, NKU had not lost an overtime contest since Dec. 5, 2008, when the Norse dropped a 2-1 decision to Dowling (N.Y.) in the NCAA Division II national semifinals at Tampa, Fla.
The Norse play a road contest at Quincy at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. NKU wraps up the road trip Sunday with a contest at Illinois-Springfield.
