DECATUR, Ala. – The Charger Chillout ended on a sour note for the Northern Kentucky University softball team as the Norse dropped both games on Day 3, falling to Augusta State by a 4-3 final before losing to West Alabama, 2-0.

The Norse (2-4) got off to a solid start against Augusta State, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI-double by Mandi McQueen to score Jessica Farris, who singled to lead off the inning.

The run held up until the top of the fourth inning, when the Jaguars strung together five hits and plated four runs to take the edge in the contest.

NKU got a couple of runs back in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI-double from Emily Schwaeble and an RBI-single by Ashley Gates, cutting the lead down to one run.

The Norse threatened in the seventh inning, after a pinch-hit single by April Ehlers. The senior moved to third base on a sacrifice and a groundout, but was left stranded at third after the park held Schwaeble's well-hit ball to center field to end the game.

Chelsie Roy (1-1) took the loss for the Norse, giving up one earned run on six hits while picking up two strikeouts.

The second game of the day saw a pitchers' duel between Ehlers and UWA's Kristen Skinner, with the two pitchers combining for 17 strikeouts in the contest.

Again, the Norse had their chances to put runs on the board, leaving the bases loaded in the third inning and a pair in scoring position in the sixth inning.

It was a Jessica Powell home run in the bottom of the sixth that provided all the offense the Tigers needed.

Jamie Raabe went 2-for-3 in the loss and ended the weekend hitting .538 (7-for-13) for the Norse. Ehlers fell to 1-2 in the circle, striking out nine batters in the hard-luck loss.

The Norse have a week off before heading out on their Spring Break trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Norse will play 10 games in six days before hitting the road to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Rockhurst and Quincy the following weekend.
