QUINCY, Ill. – Emily Schwaeble brought to life a scenario that children play out millions of times in backyards around the country.

Trailing in the seventh inning, two outs and a two strike count against the top pitcher in the league, and Schwaeble cranked a three-run home run just inside the left-field fair pole to give the Northern Kentucky University softball team a dramatic 4-2 victory over Quincy in Game 2 of a doubleheader sweep.

The home run, Schwaeble's first of the season, was her only hit of the day off of reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Year Torie Bunzell. The towering shot helped the Norse extend their winning streak to six games and improve to 11-7 overall and 4-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

After Carla Passani hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give Quincy the early lead in Game 2, Natalie Papi began the comeback in the sixth inning, sending a 2-1 pitch over the centerfield wall to cut the lead in half.

April Ehlers (6-4) struck out 13 batters and scattered just three hits without a walk in the victory.

Game 1 saw Jessica Farris account for the game's only run with a solo home run to open the sixth inning of a 1-0 victory. Chelsie Roy (4-1) got the shutout in the circle, giving up three hits and striking out two.

The losses dropped Quincy to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC.

NKU returns to action on Saturday to open the home half of the schedule against Missouri S&T. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
