ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team rallied from a 6-0 deficit on Saturday to post an 8-6 victory against Northern Kentucky University in a game that was called after five innings due to snow.
NKU dropped to 16-9 overall, 7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Missouri-St. Louis is 9-10 overall, 5-0 in the GLVC.
NKU scored five times in the second inning to build a 5-0 lead.
Dee Dee Davis capped the second-inning outburst with a two-run triple for the Norse.
Natalie Papi extended the NKU advantage to 6-0 in the fourth inning with a run-scoring single, but Missouri-St. Louis responded by scoring five times in the bottom of the frame to pull within a run at 6-5.
As the snowfall intensified, the Tritons plated three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 8-6 lead. NKU came to bat in the top of the sixth and scored four times to take a 10-8 lead, but the game had to be halted due to snow and the score reverted back to the last completed inning of play.
Davis, Papi and
Dana Jarboe all finished 2-for-3 at the plate for NKU. The Norse will conclude the road trip, weather permitting, with a doubleheader at Maryville on Sunday.
