EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky University tennis teams turned in carbon-copy performances as both teams defeated Southern Indiana by identical 6-3 scores.

The men's team extended their winning streak to ten matches, the longest since the 2003 season when NKU won eleven matches in-a-row en route to an 18-5 overall record and both the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles.

NKU (11-2, 2-0 GLVC), ranked sixth in the Midwest Region according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association, got off to a blazing start by taking all three doubles points to kick start the upset bid. All three matches were tightly contested as two went to the tiebreaker set to determine the winner.

USI (7-5, 2-1 GLVC) came into the match with national ranking of 36th to go along with a No. 3 standing in the Midwest Region.

Martin Leroy and Guillaume Berman, who own a 9-5 record together in doubles play, also pulled off an upset of their own in defeating the Screaming Eagles tandem of Diego Gimenez and Joseph Boesing by a 9-8 (7-4) final to highlight men's doubles action. Gimenez and Boesing are rated the fourth-best doubles team in the Midwest Region.

In a battle of regionally ranked singles opponents, Leroy (fifth) won a hard-fought battle with Gimenez (tenth) in three sets – 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7) and 7-5.

Other singles winners on the men's side for the Norse were Andre Correa over Rodrigo Flores (6-3, 6-3) and Pierce Kohls defeating Boesing, who was forced to retire from the match due to an injury.

In the women's match, the Norse used an early 2-1 advantage after doubles play to build momentum towards their 6-3 victory.

NKU (8-3, 3-0 GLVC) then won the first two singles flights to push its lead to 4-1 over the Screaming Eagles (5-8, 2-1 GLVC).

Kristen Sunday downed Lindsey White by a 6-0, 6-2 final in flight No. 2 and was soon followed by Marta Romeo's 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Michelle Girgenti in No-1 flight action.

After dropping a hotly contested, three-set match in flight No. 3, NKU wrapped up the victory when Jenny Hand blew past Ellena Stumpf 6-2, 6-1. Jillian Sturgeon finished of the winning ways for the Norse with a 6-4, 6-0 win in flight No. 5.
