CINCINNATI – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team began play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 5-1 win against Illinois-Springfield on Friday at the Beechmont Racquet Club.
Guillaume Berman,
Andre Correa and
Pierce Kohls all picked up wins in singles action for NKU, which improved to 14-3 overall. The Norse are the No. 1 seed from the GLVC East Division.
Berman posted a 6-0, 6-3 win against Josh Patrick in No. 2 singles. Correa defeated Matthew McGowan, 6-4, 6-3 in No. 3 singles, while Kohls picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sharma Kumar in No. 4 singles.
NKU began by winning two of the three doubles matches. Kohls and
Tyler Fraser teamed for an 8-3 win in No. 2 doubles, while Correa and
Lee Lonergan posted a 9-7 victory in No. 3 doubles action.
In the semifinals, NKU dropped a 5-2 decision to Rockhurst. The Hawks won all three doubles matches and posted victories at No. 1 and No. 4 singles to eliminate the Norse. Rockhurst is 19-3 overall and No. 2 in the regional poll, while NKU is 14-4 overall and No. 4 in the regional poll.
