HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team saw its 10-match winning streak come to a halt with a hard-fought 7-2 loss to Xavier University (12-9) at the Yeager Tennis Complex.

The last loss for the Norse (11-3) occurred nearly two months ago, when they dropped a 6-3 decision to Union College (Ky.) of the NAIA.

Pierce Kohls won his 11th consecutive singles matches with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Mesa Mei in No.-4 flight action. Kohls, a freshman from California, Ky., leads NKU with a 15-3 record in singles play.

Tyler Fraser (12-2) also earned a singles win in flight No.-5 by taking a 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (7-5) decision from Brian Starr.

The match result could have very easily been in the favor of NKU as all three doubles flights were hotly contested.

Martin Leroy and Guillaume Berman nearly scratched out a win in No.-1 doubles as they pushed their opponents to a tiebreaker set. Patrick Bandy and Starr eked out the win with a 9-8 (7-4) result.

Kohls and Fraser also came extremely close to winning their doubles match, but fell 9-7 to Bobby Deye and Jimmy Roebker in No-2 play. The third flight saw NKU drop an 8-4 decision.

The Norse will be back in action Friday morning as they resume play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference against Bellarmine at the Yeager Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
