CINCINNATI – Weather might have forced the Northern Kentucky University tennis teams to move their Great Lakes Valley Conference home match against Bellarmine to the Beechmont Racquet Club, but it only delayed the inevitable as NKU rolled in both men's and women's action, 9-0 and 7-2 respectively.

In men's action, NKU (12-3, 3-0 GLVC) was dominant from the beginning of the match, only seeing a challenge in the No. 1 doubles flight. Bellarmine's duo of Jacob Knagenhjelm and Carlos Antonioli pushed NKU's Martin Leroy and Guillaume Berman to the brink of a tiebreaker, but the Norse tandem prevailed 9-7.

The Norse, ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Region rankings, would go on to take both the second and third doubles flights by the same 8-1 score.

Bellarmine (5-9, 1-4 GLVC) couldn't muster a comeback as NKU steamrolled the Knights in singles play. Only one match saw an NKU player come close to dropping a set – Lee Lonergan defeated BU's Chip Jabaley in flight No.-6 by a 6-4, 6-3 final.

Leroy, Berman, Andre Correa, Pierce Kohls and Tyler Fraser took their respective matches with relative ease to help NKU clinch a spot in the GLVC Tournament, which will be hosted by NKU on April 22-23.

The match concluded with NKU posting its fifth shutout of the season, a feat that the Norse accomplished only once all of last year.

The NKU women's tennis team took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play and cruised to the victory en route to staying undefeated (4-0) in the GLVC. The Norse are now 9-4 overall while Bellarmine fell to 14-5 overall, 3-2 in GLVC play.

Singles play saw Bellarmine even the match at 2-2 as Rebecca Porter defeated NKU's Marta Romeo 6-1, 6-2 in flight one action. NKU would proceed to sweep the final five singles matches for the team victory.

NKU's Kristen Sunday and Bellarmine's Emily Roebker produced one of the most exciting sets of the afternoon as Sunday narrowly won the first set 7-6 (9-7). Set two was a vast difference from the first as Sunday cruised to a 6-0 victory.

Jenny Hand and Jillian Sturgeon both won their team-best eighth singles match of the season. Hand took down Hannah-Rose Hagan and Sturgeon defeated Kelly Hollingsworth by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores.

Claire Spradlin and Holly Robinson would go on to close out the match with wins in flights No.-3 and No.-6 respectively.

The Norse will be back in action Friday afternoon as they host Lewis University in a battle for first place in the GLVC East Division in both men's and women's play. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
