EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Diana Pickrum allowed Northern Kentucky University just four hits and struck out six batters to lead Lewis to an 8-0 victory over the Norse in the second round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Friday.
Mary Giancarlo drove in four runs for the second-seeded Flyers, who improved to 32-11 with the six-inning victory. Lewis scored five times in the fourth off NKU starter
April Ehlers, who walked three batters in that inning.
Giancarlo keyed the big inning for Lewis with a three-run double. The Flyers added two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to close out the win.
NKU dropped to 29-14 with the setback. The Norse, who split a doubleheader against Lewis last week, dropped a pair of games to the Flyers in last year's GLVC Tournament.
NKU will meet Quincy in an elimination game at 11 a.m. Saturday. The double-elimination event continues through Sunday with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
