FINDLAY, Ohio -
Mohammad Salhieh netted a pair of goals to lead the top-ranked Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Findlay in Thursday's season-opening contest.
The victory gives the Norse a 1-0 record on the young season and extends their winning streak to 11 games dating back to a 7-1 win over Maryville on Oct. 24, 2010.
Salhieh, a sophomore from Springboro, Ohio, entered the game in the 23rd minute and started the scoring just two minutes later with an unassisted tally to give the Norse the first-half advantage. He would reprise the feat just five minutes into the second half, putting home his own rebound to push the lead to 2-0.
Ben Rascona scored in the 72nd minute, uncorking a one-timer off a pass from
Ruffin Lumbala to net his first goal of the season.
Andrew Montgomery added the exclamation point in the 85th minute, scoring off a deflection from
Tommy Barrick.
Sophomore
Ben Dorn (1-0) collected the win in net, while
Sanjit Kang played the second half and made the only save for the Norse, who outshot the Oilers by a 26-3 margin.
The Norse wrap up the weekend on Sunday on the road against No. 20 ranked Ashland. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
