The top-ranked NKU men's soccer team will face a pair of difficult contests this weekend against Drury and No. 17 Missouri S&T.
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The top-ranked Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team faces a pivotal road trip this weekend which includes stops at Drury on Friday and a matchup with No. 17 ranked Missouri S&T on Sunday.

The Norse (6-0, 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) picked up two more wins this past weekend to remain unbeaten on the season. This past Friday, NKU defeated William Jewell 3-0. The Norse used goals from
Mason Cassady,
Tommy Barrick, and
Nicholas Chiarot to beat the GLVC newcomers. NKU outshot William Jewell 23-4, and Norse goalkeeper keeper
Sanjit Kang only had to make one save to earn the shutout.
Northern Kentucky prevailed in a physical contest against Rockhurst on Sunday, 1-0. The lone goal of the game came when
Anthony Meyer's long throw from the far sideline was knocked in by a Rockhurst defender for an own goal. Kang made three saves to pick up another shutout. The game was marred by four red cards, three of which were handed out in the final two minutes.
A WORD ABOUT DRURY: The Panthers enter the contest with a 5-2 record overall, and a 3-1 mark in GLVC play. In their only matchup last season, the Norse defeated Drury 3-0 at home on Senior Day.
Steven Beattie scored two goals to help give NKU the win. NKU holds the edge in the all-time series, 5-3, though Drury has won three of the last five meetings between the teams.
A WORD ABOUT MISSOURI S&T: The Miners enter this weekend's action ranked No. 17 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll with a 5-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in GLVC play. S&T was defeated by Rockhurst 1-0 in Kansas City on Sept. 9. Spencer Brinkmeyer leads the Miners with four goals in six games.
Last season, NKU encountered the Miners on three occasions, twice in post-season play. The Norse defeated S&T 1-0 in overtime in the regular season, but two even more thrilling matches came weeks later. In the semifinals of the GLVC tournament, NKU needed an overtime goal from
Michael Holder to dispatch S&T. The two teams met again in the NCAA Midwest Regional championship game. With the scored tied at two in the 88th minute,
Steven Beattie scored the winner for the Norse.
NKU has the lead in the all-time series, 12-6, and has claimed victory in each of the last eight meetings between the teams.
GLVC LEADERS: Northern Kentucky finds themselves atop the GLVC standings, with an unblemished record of 4-0. They own a half game lead over Quincy (3-0-1), and a full game over Missouri S&T, Bellarmine, and Drury who are each 3-1.
SCORING BY COMMITTEE: 13 different players have put the ball into the back of the net this season for the Norse. The team is led by
Mohammad Salhieh,
Ben Rascona, and
Michael Bartlett, who each have three goals. Salhieh leads the team with four assists off the bench. As a team, the Norse rank second nationally in total goals (25) and goals per game (4.17).
KANG-TASTIC: Freshman goalkeeper
Sanjit Kang has appeared in five games, starting three of them, and has yet to surrender a goal in almost 340 minutes of action. He is 4-0 on the year and owns two shutouts. He is one of just two qualifying goalkeepers without a goal against this season, the other being Liam Waddy of New York Tech.
