HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team will put its perfect record at home on the line when they host USC Upstate on Wednesday evening. Kickoff at the NKU Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Live stats for the match can be found at nkunorse.com.
The Norse (6-9-1, 3-2-1 Atlantic Sun) own a 2-0-1 record at home. They are coming off a hard fought 2-1 loss at Mercer, who currently sits atop the Atlantic Sun standings. The Norse fell behind early and trailed 2-0 after just over eight minutes of play. NKU battled back, and controlled possession for most of the match.
Cian McDonald pulled the Norse within one goal, but that was as close as NKU could get. The goal was McDonald's first of the season.
USC Upstate (5-8-1, 3-3-0 Atlantic Sun) also played Mercer this past week, falling to the Bears, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans own a 3-5-1 record away from home, but have won back-to-back away matches dating back to Oct. 12. USC Upstate owns conference wins over North Florida, Stetson, and Lipscomb. The Norse defeated both North Florida and Stetson earlier this season, and will play Lipscomb on Saturday.
The Spartans are led offensively by Dave Musambi. Musambi has started all 14 matches for USC Upstate, and leads the team with 12 points and five goals. Dylan Hoop is second on the team in both points (six) and goals (three). John Kadane is the leading assist man for the Spartans this season, totaling three so far. Dani Alvarado has featured in net for all 14 matches, and has recorded five shutouts. He owns a goals allowed average of just 1.04, and has made 67 saves.
With a win, the Norse can hold on to the fourth spot in the Atlantic Sun standings, and potentially move into a tie for third place with Florida Gulf Coast University.
