Norse travel to Western Illinois on Tuesday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team travels to Macomb, Ill., to face Western Illinois University on Tuesday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Norse (1-6) are coming off their first win as a Division I men's soccer program on Saturday. NKU defeated Belmont University, 2-1. Trailing 1-0 in the 71st minute, Cian McDonald scored the equalizer on a pass from Nick Toney. Kevin Walker scored the winner with just 1:25 remaining in regulation. Gavin Colton served a ball to Walker, and he was able to finish.

Walker was named the Atlantic Sun Co-Player of the Week for men's soccer for his efforts against Belmont. On the season, Walker has two assists in addition to his game-winning goal at Belmont. Walker has been featured in the starting lineup in six of NKU's seven matches.

Western Illinois brings a 2-4-2 record into Tuesday's match. The Fighting Leathernecks own victories over DePaul and Valparaiso. They also tied with Wisconsin in the Illinois-Chicago Soccer Classic. Western Illinois opened Summit League play this past Saturday by tying with Omaha, 1-1.

Austin Gochneaur leads the Leatherneck offense. Gochneaur has played in all eight matches, starting seven, and has a team high five points (two goals, one assist). Yves Dietrich has seen all 760 minutes in goal for Western Illinois, and has posted two shutouts as well as making 32 saves on the season.

NKU plays two matches this week. After its matchup with Western Illinois, the Norse will travel to Peoria, Ill., on Saturday to take on Bradley University. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 8 p.m.
