BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar used a three-run seventh inning to secure a 5-3 victory over Northern Kentucky and complete a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

NKU (0-3) took advantage of a Lamar error in the top of the first inning to jump out to the early lead.

Ryan LeFevers reached base on an error by third baseman Aaron Olivas and advanced to second on a Zac Asman ground out.  Brad Clement singled up the middle, bringing LeFevers home to give the Norse a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals evened the game in the bottom of the second and added a run in the third to take a 2-1 advantage.

After three scoreless innings, Lamar (3-0) put together the three-run inning to stretch its lead to seal the win.

Sam Bumpers drew a walk and advanced to second on a ground out by Andrew Dewey.  Jude Vidrine was walked.  Bumpers scored when Darian Johnson singled through the left side.

After Aric Harris struck out Brad Picha, Brett Loeding replaced Harris on the mound for NKU.  Loeding hit Seth Dornak with a pitch to load the bases.

Aaron Olivas hit a drive to left center, allowing Vidrine and Johnson to score and give the Cardinals a 5-1 lead.

Anthony Vagnier and LeFevers both scored on wild pitches in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to two, but that was as close as the Norse could get in the nightcap.

Olivas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored to lead Lamar, while Vidrine finished 2-for-4.

Eric Harrington (1-0) collected 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work for the win. Clement and Josh Myers went 2-for-4 for the Norse.

The Cardinals used back-to-back three-run innings in the opener to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 10-5 victory over NKU.

Bumpers led Lamar, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

Will Hobbs (1-0) pitched three innings of relief and only allowed three hits to earn his first win of the season.

Zac Asman went 2-for-3 with a run, while LeFevers finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

NKU and Lamar conclude the four-game series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
