SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team ended its Spring Break road trip on a sour note, falling to USC Upstate by a 7-2 score to wrap up the teams' three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series.
The Norse, now 6-15 overall and 0-3 in A-Sun play, return home this weekend to host Mercer for the first home games of the 2013 season.
Upstate (19-2, 5-1 A-Sun) got the scoring started early, using Maddison Kieffer's third home run of the series to punctuate a four-run first inning. The Spartans added two more runs in the second inning to stake a quick 6-0 lead.
Both Norse runs came by way of the solo home run, as
Emily Schwaeble and
Natalie Papi each put pitches over the left field wall, marking two of NKU's three hits on the day.
