HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – McKenzie Woody compiled five hits and Krista Kennedy drove in five runs to help Mercer sweep an Atlantic Sun Conference softball doubleheader at Northern Kentucky on Saturday.

Mercer took a 7-2 win in Game 1 before prevailing in the nightcap, 3-1.  NKU is now 6-17 on the season and still seeking its first A-Sun (0-5) victory.

Kennedy's five RBIs came in Game 1, starting with a two-run double in the top of the first inning to set the tone.  She followed up in the fourth inning with a three-run double, capping a four-run frame.

The Norse got a run back on a Natalie Papi single, one of her two hits on the game, to score Alesa Collinsworth, who was pinch-running for Emily Schwaeble, who reached base on an error to open the inning.  KC Straley also posted a 2-for-4 game from the leadoff spot.

NKU scored again in the bottom of the seventh on a Dee Dee Davis two-out, bases-loaded single to left field, scoring pinch runner Allie Conner.

Woody went 3-for-5 with a run scored while Marissa Botz went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.  All told, the Bears (16-14, 5-2 A-Sun) amassed 13 hits on the game.

Mercer's Sarah Santana opened the scoring in Game 2 with a two-run home run to left field in the third inning, scoring Woody, who picked up another two hits in the nightcap. NKU responded in the bottom half with a run, again off Papi's bat, scoring Mandi McQueen, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Santana put the game away in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to the gap in left-centerfield, again scoring Woody.

Schwaeble struck out seven Bears batters and scattered six hits while allowing three runs in the loss, dropping her record to 1-8 on the season.

The teams wrap up their three-game conference series on Sunday morning with a single contest, scheduled for an 11 a.m. first pitch.
