HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Michael Fries collected three hits and drove in three runs Sunday afternoon to lead Butler to an 8-3 victory over Northern Kentucky at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

Kyle Allen struck out 10 batters and scattered five hits in seven innings to pick up the win for Butler, which improved to 8-10. The Bulldogs built a 4-1 lead after four innings and then plated two runs on both the seventh and eighth frames to wrap up the victory.

Brad Clement drove in two runs for Northern Kentucky, which dropped to 2-18 with its 12th consecutive loss. Josh Myers, Bradley Vanderglas and Logan Spurlin each collected two hits for the Norse, who are in their first season of Division I competition.

Northern Kentucky starter Cody Cooper went seven innings and allowed 11 hits. He gave up eight runs, but only five of those were earned as Butler took advantage of three Norse errors. Cooper also struck out five batters and issued four walks on an afternoon in which snow flurries were falling and temperatures were dropping.

Drew Campbell tossed two innings of one-hit baseball for the Norse and struck out three batters. Northern Kentucky finished with nine hits, including three in the bottom of the ninth when the Norse scored twice.

Northern Kentucky plays at Cincinnati this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Norse begin Atlantic Sun Conference play Friday at Kennesaw State.
