NKU baseball drops Game 2 at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State University baseball team made six Northern Kentucky University errors hurt as the Owls cruised to a 15-4 victory on Saturday at the Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
 
Kennesaw State (13-10 overall, 3-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) took advantage of a Norse error to plate two runs in the bottom of the first inning and jumped out to the early lead.
 
NKU loaded the bases in the fifth when Logan Spurlin, Caleb Lonkard and Hunter Morey drew walks, but the Norse were unable to score.
 
Kennesaw State struck in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-0 advantage after scoring five runs, three of which were unearned.
 
Brad Clement recorded the first Norse hit of the game with a double to right center to start the sixth inning and later helped get NKU on the scoreboard.  Spurlin followed two outs with a walk, and Conor Ledger sent a 2-1 Travis Dean pitch into deep left center, scoring Clement and Spurlin to cut the lead to 7-2.
 
The Owls added two more runs in the seventh, and the Norse answered with a pair of two-out runs in the eighth.
 
Lonkard and Morey drew walks and a fielding error by Bo Way, who saw his 17-game hit streak snapped, allowed Josh Myers to reach base and Lonkard and Morey to score, bringing the Kennesaw State advantage to 9-4.
 
Kennesaw State scored six more runs, all unearned, in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin of the game.  Only three of the Owls' 15 runs on the day were earned.
 
NKU (2-21 overall, 0-2 A-Sun) left 13 runners on base for the day despite only collecting five hits.  The Owls pitching staff walked a total of 10 Norse batters.
 
Peyton Hart finished 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Chris McGowan went 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs to lead Kennesaw State.
 
Dean pitched six innings for the Owls and only surrendered two runs on two hits.  He collected six strikeouts and walked six batters.
 
Clement went 2-for-5 with a run and stolen base to lead the offense for NKU.  The Norse have now lost 15 consecutive games, breaking the previous record of 14 which was set during the 1998 season.
