JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Joe Wielbruda finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the University of North Florida baseball team to a 12-1 victory over Northern Kentucky University on Friday in Atlantic Sun Conference action at Harmon Stadium.
Ryan Roberson sent the first
Aric Harris pitch of the second inning over the center-field wall to give North Florida a 1-0 lead. The Ospreys added to their lead in the fifth on a three-run triple by Tyler Marincov and Donnie Dewees' RBI single for a 5-0 advantage and did not let up.
North Florida (25-11 overall, 7-3 in the A-Sun) scored six runs in the following frame and one more in the eighth to stretch the lead to 12-0.
The Norse avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth.
Brett Cisper started the inning for NKU with a single up the middle. He advanced to second on a throwing error by Paul Karmeris and third on a double play.
Brad Clement singled up the middle to bring Cisper home for the final margin of the game.
Wielbruda was hit by a pitch in his first at bat and safely reached base in each attempt on the day. Roberson went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Ospreys.
Tommy Organ (5-1) pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings for the victory. He scattered three hits, did not walk a batter and collected four strikeouts on the night.
Bradley Vanderglas went 2-for-4 for NKU (6-28 overall, 1-9 in the A-Sun). Cisper, Clement and
Logan Spurlin collected the other three hits for the Norse.
The NKU pitching staff struck out 10 Ospreys on the night.
Alex Bolia only allowed one hit and did not surrender a run over 1 2/3 innings of work.
