HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A three-run ninth inning lifted the Jacksonville University baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Northern Kentucky University in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
Brady North's double to centerfield allowed Zach Houck to score and give Jacksonville (14-23 overall, 7-6 in the A-Sun) the early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
NKU (6-31 overall, 1-12 in the A-Sun) tied the game in the bottom of the third when
Zac Asman scored on a
Bradley Vanderglas sacrifice bunt.
The game became a pitchers' duel over the next five scoreless innings. The Norse recorded four hits during that time but were unable to bring home the go-ahead run.
Aric Harris only allowed one Jacksonville base runner to keep NKU in the game.
North singled to left center to start the top of the ninth inning. Braddock Rowe followed with a single through the right side, and Drew Luther sent his first pitch up the middle to give the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage.
With one out, Michael Babb, who pinch ran for Rowe, scored on a throwing error, and a single by Scott Schaub allowed Luther to score for a 4-1 lead.
Chris Anderson retired the Norse in the bottom of the frame for the win.
North went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Dolphin offense. Anderson (6-3) pitched his second complete game of the season for the Jacksonville, and he only surrendered one run on six hits. Anderson, who ranks fifth in the nation in strikeouts, collected five on the day.
Josh Myers finished 2-for-4 with a double for NKU.
Brett Cisper drew a walk in the second inning to extend his on-base streak to eight games, and he doubled in the fourth to stretch his hitting streak to four.
Harris (1-3) was solid on the mound despite the outcome. He allowed three earned runs on six hits in eight-plus innings of work for the Norse. He recorded four strikeouts over the longest outing at NKU.
