MOREHEAD, Ky. – Eight Northern Kentucky University softball players recorded hits including Michelle Carson, who had a pair of hits and drove in two runs, but the Norse could not hold off the offensive onslaught of Morehead State in an 8-5 loss to close a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon.

Carson, Dana Jarboe and Alexis VanHorn each had two hits as the Norse amassed 11 on the game, equaling the team's season high reached in an 8-1 win over North Carolina Central on Feb. 23.

Morehead State (13-11) jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the game's first three innings, keyed by a five-hit, three-run second inning. The Norse answered in the top of the fourth inning, denting the plate for the first time after a bases-loaded walk to Allie Connor to bring in VanHorn.

Two Norse errors and two sacrifice flies led to three more Eagles runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Carson's two-run single came in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit back to five runs at 8-3.  The Norse got two more runs on a Jarboe RBI single and a Conner sacrifice fly in the seventh, but ran out of outs.

In Game 1, Emily Schwaeble struck out four Eagles batters, but the Norse bats never started up as Morehead State took a 3-0 win. Kayla Ashbrook's RBI double in the first inning gave Morehead all the offense it needed, though the Eagles added on with a solo home run by Amber Riddle in the fourth and a Tressa Watson RBI single in the sixth.  NKU managed just three hits in the opener.

NKU, now 7-25 overall, returns to Atlantic Sun Conference this weekend with a three-game series against Jacksonville.  The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon before closing out the weekend with an 11 a.m. single game.
