Doane (6-1) collected five strikeouts while only allowing two runs on four hits as the Buccaneers improved to 16-11 overall and 5-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

NKU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the second when Josh Myers scored on a Ryan Hinz groundout and added to its lead the following inning.

Caleb Lonkard began the inning for the Norse with a single and was moved to third on back-to-back groundouts.  Brad Clement doubled to drive in Lonkard before being thrown out at third to end the NKU inning with a 2-0 advantage.

ETSU took advantage of two Norse errors in the top of the sixth to bring home five runs, giving the Bucs the 5-2 lead that would stand as the final score.

Doane only allowed two NKU baserunners over the final four frames. Mason Hershey finished 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense for ETSU, while Alex Reynolds collected two RBIs.

Aric Harris recorded five strikeouts and walked four in 5 1/3 innings of work for the Norse.  He surrendered three runs on three hits and fell to 1-1 on the year.

NKU is now 4-25 on the season and 1-6 in the A-Sun.

The two teams return to action on Saturday for the second game of the series.  First pitch scheduled for 1 p.m., and the Norse will be hosting the second annual “Bark in the Park” event.  Custom NKU dog collars will be available for $10, along with hotdogs and drinks for $1.  All proceeds benefit the Boone County Animal Shelter, who will have its Adoption Waggin' in attendance, and Queen City Greyhounds.
