BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team saw 13 players account for its 21 hits on Tuesday as the Falcons defeated Northern Kentucky University, 13-8, at William E. Steller Field in non-conference play.

BGSU (19-26) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring one run in the first inning and two in the second, but NKU (8-44) took advantage of back-to-back Falcon errors to add two runs to the scoreboard in the third frame.  The Norse then took the lead in the top of the fourth after plating two runs.

Caleb Lonkard started the inning for the Norse with a single and proceeded to steal second.  Brandon Wood drew a walk, and a double steal advanced both an extra base.  An RBI single to right-center field by Anthony Vagnier allowed Lonkard to score, and Quint Heady's squeeze bunt brought Wood home to give NKU a 4-3 advantage.

The Falcons, however, responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead and added a run on an Alex Davidson RBI double after Jeremy Shay tripled to put BGSU ahead, 10-4, in the sixth.

Brad Clement drew a walk to start the top of the four-run seventh for the Norse.  Logan Spurlin's double down the right-field line sent Clement to third, and Josh Myers, pinch hitting for Cody Kuzniczci, earned a walk to load the bases.  Clement scored when Lonkard reached on a fielder's choice that saw Myers out on the play.

Pat Hyde also reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Spurlin to score, but Lonkard was safe at second on a throwing error by second baseman Brandon Howard.  Wood loaded the bases with a single, and Chris Miller walked Vagnier, bringing Lonkard home to cut the NKU deficit to two (10-8).

The Norse could not get any closer as BGSU extended its lead with an additional run in the bottom of the inning and two in the eighth for the final margin of the game.

Five Falcons recorded multiple hits on the day, including Nick Glanzman's 3-for-4 effort.  He collected three RBIs and one run, while Brian Bien and Shay finished 3-for-5.  Bien scored three times, and Shay batted in two runs.

Devin Daugherty (1-1) earned his first win of the season after pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.  He did not surrender a hit, walked one batter and struck out two.

Spurlin went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI to lead the NKU offense.  Clement and Vagnier each finished 1-for-2 with two walks.  Clement scored one run and batted one in, while Vagnier recorded two RBIs and one run.

NKU welcomes Atlantic Sun Conference foe Mercer for a three-game series to the Bill Aker Baseball Complex to conclude the 2013 season.  First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 3 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start on Friday.  The Norse will honor their seniors prior to Saturday's contest at noon, and it will also be alumni day.
