NKU softball falls to Lipscomb in DH sweep

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A pair of stellar pitching performances propelled the Lipscomb University softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Northern Kentucky University in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday afternoon.
 
Heather Parker (13-11) surrendered two hits and struck out five in a 3-0 win in Game 1, while Tanner Sanders (17-9) spun a no-hitter in a 6-0 victory in Game 2.
 
In Game 1, the Lady Bisons got all the runs they needed in the first inning when Paige Neely and Mickey Bell each hit home runs to push Lipscomb (31-22, 17-8 A-Sun) to a 3-0 lead.  Dee Dee Davis broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth inning with her third triple of the season.  Kaylin Steinmetz added an infield single in the fifth.
 
Emily Schwaeble pitched six innings in relief of Alex Caudill, scattering three hits and striking out seven batters in the opener.  Gracey Aguirre was 2-for-3 with a stolen base to pace the Lipscomb offense, which recorded six total hits on the game. 
 
NKU (11-40, 5-21 A-Sun) was aided by five walks in Game 2, but failed pick up a key hit in the 6-0 loss.  The Lady Bisons again got on the board early, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.  Kristen Sturdivant keyed the offense for Lipscomb, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run in the sixth inning and an RBI double in the seventh.
 
The Norse and Lady Bisons wrap up the series and the 2013 season on Saturday at 1 p.m. NKU will honor its seniors in a pregame ceremony.
