NASHVILLE, Tenn., and Clarksville, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team returned to action with a two-city tour of the Volunteer State on Friday, claiming a victory over Tennessee State, 4-2, before falling to Austin Peay, 4-0.

In the opener at Tennessee State, the Norse started the match ahead against the shorthanded Tigers as the No. 6 singles match defaulted to NKU.  The Norse solidified the match by taking wins in the bottom three flights, with Christopher Angulo claiming a 6-3, 6-1 win over Joseph Daniels at No. 3, Jody Maginley besting Branden McClain, 6-1, 6-0,  at No. 4, and Nick Lang sweeping Jared Asher, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.  TSU picked up a win in the top flight when Kyle Burton took a 13-11 third-set tiebreak from Mate Virag, and Pierce Kohls succumbed to an injury and retired from his match at the No. 2 flight, trailing 5-4 in the first set.

Kohls was able to return for the evening match at Austin Peay, and he teamed with Virag in the top-flight doubles, falling to Jasmin Ademovic and Aleksas Tverijonas, 6-3.  The Governors took the doubles point in the second flight when Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin defeated Angulo and Maginley, 6-1.

Singles play saw Ademovic defeat Virag, 6-3, 6-2, in the top flight, and Tverijonas defeat Angulo, 6-1, 6-0, in the third flight.  Balint Zsidai won his first set against James Mitchell and was level in the second set, 2-2, when he was forced to retire, giving the match to APSU.

NKU now stands 2-1 on the young season and returns to action on Feb. 21, at Wright State.
