NASHVILLE, Tenn., and CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a pair of victories in the Volunteer State.

The Norse opened the day with a 6-0 defeat over Tennessee State before traveling to win a late-night match over Austin Peay, 4-1.  With the wins, NKU now stands with a 3-0 record on the year and has claimed victory in each of its last four dual matches dating back to the 2013 campaign.

NKU rolled over a shorthanded Tigers squad in the opener, with Maria Voscekova, Danielle Donahue and Marta Romeo each claiming singles victories while the other three matches defaulted to the Norse.

In the evening match at Austin Peay, Voscekova and Donahue ran their doubles record to a perfect 8-0 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Austin Peay's Andra Cornea and Ornella Di Salvo in the top flight.  Sierra Nellessen and Yasmine Xantos teamed up in the No. 3 match to defeat Jovana Karac and Hannah Tatlock in a 8-6 tiebreaker to give the doubles point to the Norse.

In singles play, Romeo's 6-2, 6-2 win over Karac at No. 4 and Voscekova's 7-5, 6-3 win over Cornea put the Norse ahead by a 3-0 margin in the team event.  Nicole Soutar lost a hard-fought match to Vanessa Tavares in a 10-6 super tiebreaker at No. 3 before Donahue closed out the Norse win, coming back from a pair of match points in the second set to post a 4-6, 6-7 (4), 10-4 win over APSU's Di Salvo.

The Norse have a weekend off before returning to action on Feb. 7, at IPFW.
