HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Paige Mathews neared perfection while the Kennesaw State University softball team fired on all cylinders offensively to take a 10-0 victory over Northern Kentucky University to sweep the Atlantic Sun Conference weekend series at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
Mathews retired the first 10 batters she faced and struck out five to move to 2-4 on the year. The Owls' hurler surrendered just one hit, a single to
KC Straley in the fourth inning. With the win, Kennesaw State improved to 15-11 overall and 5-1 in A-Sun play, while NKU dropped to 2-17 and 0-6.
The Owls combined for 12 hits, with Sara Sikes leading the charge, going 3-for-4. Courtney Sutter and Megan Veringa each homered and drove in three runs on the day as well.
NKU returns to action on Thursday when the Norse travel to face Austin Peay in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
