CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Lauren de Castro accounted for five hits and Kayla Davidson added four more as the Austin Peay State University softball team handed Northern Kentucky University a pair of defeats on Thursday afternoon.

De Castro went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs in a 5-1 victory in Game 1, while Davidson added a grand slam as one of her two hits as Austin Peay took a 13-0 win to complete the sweep.  With the losses, NKU falls to 2-19 on the year as the Norse roll into this weekend's Atlantic Sun Conference series against North Florida.

Dee Dee Davis went 1-for-3 and accounted for NKU's only RBI in the opener, knocking in KC Straley in the top of the first inning.  Straley added a pair of stolen bases, while Dana Jarboe, Dani Devlin and Nicolette Hayes added singles.

After the opening run by the Norse, Austin Peay (11-14) leveled the score in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of a walk and a throwing error to set up a De Castro sacrifice fly, making it a 1-1 game.  A Davidson triple and a De Castro double in the third made it a 3-1 game.  The Lady Govs scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score.

Alex Caudill (0-10) took the loss in the circle in Game 1, giving up three earned runs and picking up three strikeouts.  Sidney Hooper got the win in the circle for Austin Peay, scattering four hits and striking out four as her record improved to 2-2.

Jarboe, as she did in Game 1, led the Norse off with a base hit to start the game, but it was Davidson's second-inning grand slam that threw the flood gates open for a six-run frame for the Lady Govs in Game 2.  Austin Peay scored six more runs in the third to seal the win, pounding out 12 hits in the contest.

Mandi McQueen also got a hit in her only at bat in the nightcap.  The loss fell to Alyssa Enrique, who gave up eight runs on eight hits to fall to 1-3 on the season.  De Castro spun a two-hit shutout, striking out six to move to 7-5 on the season.

NKU's weekend series against North Florida opens on Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.  NKU softball will be giving away koozies and team schedule posters on Saturday.
