LOS ANGELES – Tommy Cheek went 2-for-3 and scored two runs Friday night to lead the Loyola Marymount University baseball team to a 4-2 win over Northern Kentucky University at Page Stadium.

Cheek also drove in two runs for Loyola Marymount, which snapped a 1-all tie in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring twice. Cheek's run-scoring single up the middle drove in Austin Miller to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Cheek later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Cohen to extend Loyola Marymount's advantage to 3-1.

NKU cut the Loyola Marymount lead to 3-2 in the eighth inning when Logan Spurlin plated Cody Kuzniczci with an RBI single. Kuzniczci began the rally with a double down the left-field line, and Spurlin followed with a single to right.

The Lions responded with a triple by Cheek to begin their half of the eighth inning, and he scored on a single by Tanner Donnels to make it a 4-2 game. Bret Dahlson pitched the final 1.1 innings and picked up the save for Loyola Marymount, which is 7-7.

Kuzniczci and Spurlin both were 2-for-4 at the plate for the Norse, who are 3-9. Cody Cooper pitched seven innings and scattered five hits, allowing two earned runs and striking out four.
