CINCINNATI  – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team dropped a matchup at Cincinnati on Tuesday, 5-2.

NKU head coach Brian Nester decided to tinker with the lineup combinations in doubles competition for the matchup against the Bearcats. The adjustments were not enough as Cincinnati collected victories in all three matchups.

After dropping the first set in the first flight of singles competition, 1-6, Maria Voscekova battled back to win the second set, 6-3. In the tie-breaking third set, Voscekova used the momentum to defeat her opponent, Kelly Poggensee-Wei, 11-9 on her way to the victory.

In flight No. 4, Nicole Soutar proved she could overcome a second set loss and defeat Katya Bure, 11-9 in the third, en route to NKU's final victory on the day.

In his post-match comments, Nester reflected on his two victors, Souter and Voscekova, "I'm happy Maria and Nicole were able to get wins against Cincinnati; they're a good team."

The Norse, now 5-10 overall, will look to get back in their winning ways as they will take part in three home matches this weekend. The Norse will battle Atlantic Sun Conference foes Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson on Friday and Saturday. The weekend will wrap-up with a non-conference home contest against Chicago State.
