ResultsDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team dropped their closest match of the year, falling to Bethune-Cookman by a 4-3 score on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, NKU falls to 4-14 on the year.
The Norse opened the afternoon by taking the doubles point with a pair of wins.
Mate Virag and
Pierce Kohls teamed in the top flight to defeat Gilbert Rotich and Greg Almeida, 8-2. At No. 3,
Christopher Angulo and
Jody Maginley took an 8-4 result from Santiago Lobelo and Diego Garavito, running the Norse pair's record to 4-4 on the season.
Virag and Kohls also claimed singles victories in the match. Virag snapped a six-match slide with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win over Walid Gtari in the top flight. Kohls saw success in the No. 2 flight, defeating Rotich, 7-5, 6-0, to take the point for the Norse.
Bethune-Cookman would take the final four singles matches in straight sets to claim the match.
NKU closes out the 2014 season on Tuesday with a home match against Xavier. First serve from the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.
