NKU-Green Bay ResultsHIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team closed its season in successful fashion, claiming wins over Walsh and Wisconsin-Green Bay in back-to-back matches on Friday.
The Norse took a 4-2 win over Walsh in the day match before besting Green Bay, 5-1, in the nightcap at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
Against Walsh, the Norse opened with singles play and the bottom half of the Norse lineup dominated.
Sierra Nellessen didn't drop a game in a straight-set win over Anastasiya Dasik at No. 5.
Nicole Soutar followed up with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Alisha Angle at No. 4 and
Yasmine Xantos held on for a 6-1, 7-5 win over Arina Kravitz at No. 6.
The Norse wrapped up the match on
Maria Voscekova's 7-5, 6-3 win over Sofya Logunova in the top flight. With the win, the senior improved to 19-9 on the year and has won seven of her last nine singles matches.
Nellessen pushed her final singles record to .500 on the year with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Carly Van Nuland of Green Bay. Soutar also dropped just a single game to Rachel Menos at No. 4 and Xantos went 6-0, 6-0, to defeat Noel Peck.
The Norse seniors both closed their careers in victory, as Voscekova defeated Stephanie Londre, 6-1, 6-0, in the top flight, while
Marta Romeo bested Lauren Miketinak, 6-2, 6-1, to make it a 5-1 win for the Norse. Again, the teams chose to forego doubles play.
NKU finished the 2013-14 season with a 7-16 record. The Norse combined for 71 singles victories on the year, besting last year's mark by a whopping 57 wins.
