and
Dana Jarboe set the table for Carson to put the Norse ahead in the sixth.
Dani Devlin's sacrifice attempt took Davis off the base paths and
Katelyn Roy popped a foul ball into the mitt of EKU catcher Katie Tackett. With two outs, Carson shot a 1-1 pitch to the left side, off the glove of a diving McQueen at second base to score Jarboe.
Poetically, Carson recorded the final putout in the seventh as well, spearing Jessica Gregg's liner at third base to end the game.
Enrique improved to 3-10 on the year, giving up just the unearned run while striking out five and walking three. Shaylon Robb fell to 0-6, recording six strikeouts while giving up two runs on six hits.
The opener saw EKU jump out to a 4-0 lead over the game's first three innings. Tackett got the scoring started in the first in painful fashion, taking a ball off her forearm with the bases loaded to force home Campos from third base. Campos and Ciolek had back-to-back run-scoring hits in the second inning to extend the lead. Amber Murray reached on a fielding error in the third inning, allowing pinch runner Haley Schenasi to touch the plate.
KC Straley broke up Leanna Pittsenbarger's no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a triple to right field. However, the junior was cut down at home the very next batter, as she was thrown out attempting to score on Davis's groundout to third base.
EKU (26-17) added three more runs in the sixth inning. McQueen grounded into a fielder's choice to score Campos for a second time in the game before a pair of throwing errors on a stolen base attempt allowed McQueen and Ciolek to both score and extend the lead to 7-0.
The Norse clawed back into the game in the sixth inning when Pittsenbarger was lifted in favor of Alex Sallberg, who allowed three straight singles, including an RBI-single by Jarboe, and a walk to load the bases and force EKU head coach Joan Wilkenson to reenter her starter.
Katelyn Roy pounced one batter later, ripping a bases-clearing double to the gap in left center to close the Colonels' lead to 7-4.
Mandi McQueen attempted to start a seventh-inning rally with a one-out single but was stranded to end the game.
Pittsenbarger improved to 18-8, striking out 10 NKU batters while giving up four hits and no runs in the game. The loss fell to NKU starter
Kelley Benhase (0-4), who walked five and struck out three while giving up seven runs on eight hits.
Straley and Roy each had two-hit days to lead the Norse, who collected seven hits in the contest.
Dani Devlin went through the game without an official at bat, reaching base three times by walk.
With their 18-game losing streak snapped, the Norse will look to start another kind of streak this weekend as they head south for a three-game series against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb. The series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader from Draper Diamond, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. Eastern. NKU returns home next Wednesday for nonconference action against in-state rival Morehead State before closing out the regular season with a three-game series against Florida Gulf Coast.
