HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Stetson University softball team pounded out 10 hits and capitalized on five Northern Kentucky University errors to take a 10-0 win on Sunday and sweep the weekend series.
Kayla Drury went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Stetson offense, as the Hatters improved to 28-5 overall and 12-2 in Atlantic Sun Conference play with their 13
th consecutive win. Chrissy Morello and Demi Meza each had two hits as well.
Meza got things started in the first inning with a two-run home run to set the early tone. The Hatters picked up runs in each of the game's five innings, including five in the fourth inning, punctuated by a three-run double by Drury.
Michelle Carson picked up the only hit for NKU (3-30, 1-14 A-Sun), a leadoff single in the third inning.
Mandi McQueen was hit by a pitch later in the frame to account for the only Norse base runners on the day.
Stetson's Meredith Owen faced just one over the minimum, striking out five to improve to 16-3 on the season.
The Norse will look to break out of their 10-game losing streak on Tuesday when they host Marshall for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch from the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field is set for 2 p.m. Live stats and video for the twin bill will be available at nkunorse.com.
