Logan Spurlin extended NKU's advantage in the fourth inning when he singled to center field to bring home Asman, who sent a one-out single through the left side to reach base.
Back-to-back two-out doubles by Nixon and Simmons cut the Kennesaw State deficit in half in the top of the fifth before the Norse added two runs to their total in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Cole Bauml doubled to left-center field for NKU, and
Jordan Procyshen was hit by a Will Solomon pitch with two outs, bringing
Cody Kuzniczci to the plate. Kuzniczci then sent a 1-0 shot into right-center field, and Bauml and Procyshen scored the final two runs of the game for the Norse, setting the stage for the Owls' comeback.
Friese allowed two runs, only one earned, on 10 hits with four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work for Kennesaw State, while Solomon (1-0) earned his first victory of the season in relief, giving up just one run on one hit.
Procyshen finished 3-for-4 from the plate to lead NKU, which fell to 14-34 overall and 6-18 in the Atlantic Sun. Procyshen scored one of the Norse runs, while Spurlin went 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Norse. Asman collected two hits, drove in a run and scored once, while Bauml and Kuzniczci each went 2-for-4 with a double.
Jake Shaw (2-6) pitched 6.1 innings for the Norse, and he allowed six runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
NKU will wrap up its 2014 season on the road with a three-game conference series against Jacksonville.
