HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- The No. 3 seeded Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 6 seed Wright State (11-7-1, 4-4-1 Horizon League) in the quarterfinal of the Horizon League Men's Championship on Monday.
 
The Raiders got what proved to be the game-winner in the 35^th minute on a goal by Zach Zwiesler. After the ball was batted around following a long throw-in in to the box by Wright State, Zwiesler was able to settle the ball, finishing from the center of the box to give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.
 
Johannes Jansen, Diego Martinez, Rader Massey and Calvin Murphy all took shots for the Norse and they totaled five in the first half with three corner kicks. The Raiders took 10 shots in the opening frame with seven corner kicks.
 
In the second half, A.J. Patterson found the net for Wright State with an assist by Jackson Dietrich. Dietrich played the ball to Patterson who finished from 25 yards out to push the Wright State lead to 2-0.
 
Following the Raiders' goal, Northern Kentucky continued to press offensively with Maritnez, Bastian Beckers and Awin Komlong taking shots for the Norse. Matinez fired away in the 62^nd minute but missed high. Beckers had a look in the 81^st minute but the ball went wide of the goal. Komolong took the final shot of the match for the Norse but it was blocked.
 
The Norse finished the season 8-7-4 overall with a mark of 4-2-3 in the Horizon League.  It has only taken the Norse two years to earn a home postseason match since becoming eligible for conference championships just last year.
