Msoc readies for IPFW

Norse to take on Mastodons on Sunday at 1 p.m.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team (2-2-0) returns to action at IPFW (3-2-0) on Sunday with kickoff set for 1 p.m., at the Hefener Soccer Complex. Live stats and video of the match will be available through GoMastodons.com.
 
About IPFW
IPFW enters the match with a record of 3-2-0, following a win over Asbury on Friday. Head coach Mike Harper holds a record of 36-100-17 as the Mastodonís boss in his ninth season with the program. In 2014, IPFW finished the season 6-9-4 overall, with a 3-3 record in Summit League play.
 
Against the Summit league
The Norse tout an all-time record of 19-5-5 against teams from the Summit League. IPFW is one of two teams from the Summit League the Norse will face in 2015, with a tilt agianst IUPUI scheduled for Ocotber 28, at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
 
Youth Movement
The freshman class has been strong for the Norse thus far in 2015. In week two of action, Calvin Murphy netted back-to-back game winning goals in NKUís matches against Memphis and SFU. Daniel Lahav has started every match and played every minute (375:00) so far this season. Both Murphy and Lahav were named to the Hartwick College Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team for their play against SFU and Bucknell.
 
Fleak Fleak earnes Horizon League Defense Player of the Week honors
Senior Northern Kentucky University goalkeeper A.J. Fleak was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. In week two of the season, Fleak went 2-1-0 recording two shutouts, 19 saves and allowing only one goal. The senior also played every minute for the Norse during that three-match stretch logging a total of 184:36 minutes.
 
Basalyga named to SUNY Orange Hall of Fame
NKU's head coach recently added another honor to his impressive resume, when it was announced he will be inducted into the SUNY Orange Community College Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 7. Basalyga played baseball for SUNY Orange in 1969 and 1970, leading the team in batting average (.353) and slugging percentage (.549) in 1969. A versatile catcher/first baseman, he was an all-conference and all-region honoree. He also served as the soccer team goalie for one season. Basalyga is the first baseball player to be inducted to the school's hall of fame.
 
Last time out
The Norse shutout Memphis 1-0 (Aug. 31) then at the Hartwick College Mayor's Cup NKU shutout defending Northeast Conference regular-season defending champion SFU 2-0 (Sept. 4) and lost to 2014 College Cup qualifier Bucknell 1-0 (Sept. 6) in double-overtime. Calvin Murphy netted the game-winning against Memphis and SFU. The split with SFU and Bucknell earned the Norse second place at the Mayorís Cup with Calvin Murphy, Daniel Lahav and goalkeeper A.J. Fleak earning all-tournament team honors. 
 
Up next for the Norse
Following their match with IPFW the Norse will return to action Friday, Sept. 18, at Dayton with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
