INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team fired a season-high 23 shots on Wednesday night while goalkeeper Owen Betz made 10 saves in a 1-1 draw against IUPUI at Michael A. Carrol Stadium.

NKU SCORING SUMMARY
  • With NKU trailing 1-0 in the 69th minute, senior Alwin Komolong netted his first career goal on an assist from junior Johannes Jansen. Komolong headed in Jansen's corner kick for the equalizer.

BETWEEN THE POSTS
  • With 10 saves, Betz came just one save shy of the NKU Division-I program record the freshman set against UIC on Oct. 1.
  • IUPUI goalkeeper James Mitchison posted nine saves to hold off an aggressive Norse offense in his full 110:00 minutes.

FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The match got off to a slow start before NKU took control in the second portion of the opening period.
  • The teams starved each other of a shot on goal throughout the first 37 minutes as neither squad was able to find the back of the net in the first half.
  • Throughout the final 22 minutes, NKU out-shot the Jaguars, 6-1, and earned a pair of corner kicks. The Norse ended the period with eight shots to IUPUI's six.

SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Both goals were scored in the second half with IUPUI striking first. In the 55th minute, Pape Ndiaye scored from 12 yards out on a double assist from Nathan Silva and Ben Thornton.
  • The Jaguars led for 14 minutes before Komolong deposited the equalizer. His goal came as NKU managed four shots on goal in a span of six minutes.
  • NKU's 12 shots in the second period propelled the Norse to their season-high 23 shots.
  • Mitchison, the IUPUI goalkeeper, thwarted the Norse offense with six saves in the second period to force the game into overtime.

OVERTIME SUMMARY

  • NKU had three shots in overtime, two of which came off the foot of Jansen.

NORSE NOTES

  • Jansen, a junior forward, posted five shots in the contest, a season-high for any Norse player.
  • In seven matches this season, Betz has registered 37 saves with a .822 save percentage and 1.06 goals-against average.
