DAYTON, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team captured its first Horizon League win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Wright State, 6-4, with the help of 16 hits at Nischwitz stadium.

Justin Watts held the Raiders to three hits and three runs, two earned, across his season-high tying 7.0 innings pitched to earn his first win of the campaign.
Six Norse posted multi-hit showings as NKU out-hit Wright State, 16-5, to improve to 10-17 overall and 1-7 in the Horizon League. WSU dipped to 17-9 and 6-2 in League play.
Will Haueter went 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Mike Moffatt each issued a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with Moffatt posting a game-high three RBI and two doubles.
Dominic Mercurio added two RBI and two hits.
The Norse erased an early 2-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the fourth to take its first lead of the series. NKU posted six hits in the inning highlighted by RBI singles from Mercurio and Haueter.
The NKU offense continued to roll in the top of the fifth.
Trey Ganns and Moffatt launched back-to-back two-out doubles with Moffatt's double pushing Ganns across the plate.
Mercurio posted his second RBI in as many innings, singling up the middle to score Moffatt for a 5-2 lead.
Meanwhile, Watts retired the Raiders in order in the third and fourth frames to allow the Norse offense to take over.
Just three Raiders reached base against Watts between the third and sixth innings, one of which was on an error that allowed WSU to cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth.
In the top of the seventh, Moffatt drove in his third run of the day, scoring Ganns on an RBI single to extend the NKU lead to 6-3.
WSU plated a run in the ninth but NKU closed out the win in dramatic fashion with Spurlin turning a doubleplay at home plate.
The series rubber match is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday at Nischwitz Stadium as the Norse look to earn their first Horizon League series win.
NORSE NOTES:- NKU handed the Raiders just their third loss at home in the last two seasons.
- NKU's fifteen base knocks is the most clubbed against a League opponent this year while five hits allowed is a season-low against a League foe.
- Four of NKU's six runs were scored with two outs as the Norse went 8-for-13 (.615) with two away on Saturday.
- Watts' outing was his third-consecutive where he pitched into the seventh frame.
