Miller leads @NKUNorseBSB over Miami (Ohio), 5-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky starter Tyler Miller tossed a season-high 8.0 innings and allowed one run on Tuesday afternoon as the Norse defeated Miami (Ohio), 5-1, at Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

Miller struck out a season-best six batters throughout his 8.0 innings of work. The senior allowed eight hits and walked one.

With the game locked in a 1-1 tie, NKU (11-18) scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 5-1 lead over Miami (12-15).

Nick Beard contributed a hitless top of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts to seal the NKU win.

Offensively, a trio of Norse posted multi-hit showings as NKU out-hit Miami, 10-8. Tito Montgomery led the charge going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Trey Ganns and Mike Moffatt each went 2-for-4.

Montgomery laced a triple down the left-field line to drive in two of NKU's four runs in the eighth frame. The triple was one of five hits in an inning that also featured a sacrifice fly off the bat of Quint Heady and an RBI single from Anthony Vagnier.

NKU jumped on the board, 1-0, in the top of the first after Kyle Colletta reached on an error, advanced on a Ganns single and scored on another RedHawk miscue.

The 1-0 lead stuck until the top of the eighth when Miami managed back-to-back doubles to briefly knot the game before NKU's four-run eighth.

The Norse and RedHawks play another on Wednesday in Oxford, Ohio. First pitch at McKie Field at Hayden Park is set for 6 p.m.
