First inning determines outcome of final game at the Georgia Classic

ATHENS, Ga. – Northern Kentucky softball dropped its second game against Louisiana-Monroe to cap off action at the Georgia Classic. All seven runs of the contest were scored in the first inning, with ULM winning 6-1. NKU drops to 0-5 on the season, while the Warhawks advance to 7-4.
 
At the Plate
  • Senior catcher Dani Devlin drove in NKU's lone run of the day, blasting the team's first home run of the season with two outs at the top of the first.
  • Junior third baseman Sydney Ferrante and freshman centerfielder Kailey Rossiter also registered hits for the Norse, with Ferrante posting a sixth-inning single while Rossiter got the first hit of her NKU career with a double in the seventh.
 
In the Circle
  • Senior Charlie Nolen pitched 6.0 innings for the Norse, with a pair of strikeouts while surrendering nine hits. Nolen's career record drops to 4-17 with the setback.
 
Key Moments
  • Devlin scored NKU's lone run with a homer in the top of the first, marking the 10th time in her career that the senior had a home run.
  • The Warhawks scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the first, ending with a two-run home run by ULM's designated hitter, Jessie Watts.
  • Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the game, with NKU recording two more hits while ULM registered four hits throughout the final five innings.

  • NKU will take next weekend off before hitting the road for South Carolina. The Norse will take on North Dakota, Connecticut and Coastal Carolina at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 3-5, and will remain in the Palmetto State for a mid-week game with the Chanticleers on March 8 before traveling to Charleston for the Holy City Showdown hosted by College of Charleston, March 10-12.
