Devlin powers @NKUNorseSB to win over Chattanooga

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Northern Kentucky softball ended the Holy City Showdown on a strong note, taking down Chattanooga in a 6-2 affair. With the win, NKU moves to 3-13 on the season, while the Mocs dip to 7-17.

At the Plate
  • NKU out-hit the Mocs, 9-6, with seven Norse recording at least one hit.
  • Senior catcher Dani Devlin was formidable at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles that combined for four runs batted in. Devlin tied her season best in RBI, also sending four across the plate in the 8-6 win over UMass Lowell on Friday.
  • Freshman infielder Toree Stalter also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. It marked her third multi-hit game of the season.

In the Circle
  • Senior Charlie Nolen pitched a full 7.0 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two batters. Nolen did not allow a walk during her time in the circle, and picked up her second win of the season.

Key Moments
  • The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when NKU plated five runs. With bases loaded, Devlin unloaded her first double of the game to right center, allowing Sydney Ferrante, Summer Libecap and Ava Lawson to cross the plate. NKU scored two more, with Devlin reaching home on a fielding error before Stalter laced a double to left center to send Kara Meter home.
  • The Norse recorded their final run when Devlin doubled to left center to score Lawson and give NKU a 6-0 edge.
  • Chattanooga had four of its six hits and its only two runs in the seventh inning, but was unable to force extra innings as the Norse took the game, 6-2.

Norse Notes
  • The win marks the first in program history over Chattanooga, as NKU previously lost to the Mocs on March 1 and 3, 2013.
  • Paige McQueen extended her reached base streak to 10 games, leading all active streaks and tying the longest of the season.
  • Devlin was outstanding for the Norse over the course of the tournament, batting .429 and slugging 1.143 after driving in eight runs courtesy of four doubles and two home runs. The senior went 4-of-14 and led the team in total bases, with 16.
  • Stalter, McQueen and Ferrante all went 4-of-14 with one RBI, with Stalter leading the pack sporting a .333 batting average.

Up Next
  • The Norse will host Tennessee State in the 2017 home opener, welcoming the Tigers to Grien Field for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 15. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
